It was Mata Jito ji, Guru Ji’s first wife, who put patase in the holy pahul, not Mata Sahib Deva as is commonly preached today:
ਬਹੁਰ ਪਢਤਿ ਪੇਰਤ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਾ
ਭਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੋ ਤੇਜ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ
ਰ੍ਰਾਮਕੁਇਰ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਨੀਅਹਿ
ਬਾਲ ਬੈਸ ਮੇਰੋ ਤਨ ਜਨੀਅਹਿ॥
Then reading Baani and moving Kirpan in Baata of Amrit
Divine Power started coming out of Amrit

As it happened in my presence
ਧਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਮੈ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਾਸ
ਜਹਿ ਬੈਠੀ ਜੀਤੋ ਸੁਖਰਾਸਿ
ਤਹਾਂ ਬੈਠ ਮੈ ਸਕਲ ਸੁਨਾਈ
ਇਸ ਬਿਧਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਰੁ ਬਨਾਈ।21।
I went running to Mataji
Where was sitting Mata Jeeto, Treasure of Joy,
Sitting there, I told her whole story
The way Guruji was preparing Amrit.
ਚਟਕ ਆਪ ਮਹਿ ਲਰ ਕਰਿ ਮਰੇ
ਦੀਰਘ ਤੇਜ ਤਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਧਰੇ
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਢਿਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਫਿਰੈ ਹੈ
ਪਾਹੁਲ ਖੰਡੇ ਕੀ ਅਬ ਦੈ ਹੈਂ॥
Male sparrows died fighting each other (after taking drops from Baata)
As endless Power had entered their bodies
Now Guruji is reading Baani, rotating his Kirpan in Water
And he was going to give Khande de Pahul to all
ਜੀਤੋ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਮਤਿ ਕੀਨਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਨਿ
ਪੰਥ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਸੁਤ ਇਹ ਕਾਰ
ਪਹੁੰਚਨਿ ਬਨੈ ਕੰਤ ਕੈ ਪਾਸੇ
ਇਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਲੀਨਿ ਪਤਾਸੇ॥
Mata Jeeto thought in her blessed mind with pure intellect
Khalsa Panth, My Son is being created
I shall be there with my husband
Thinking this, she picked up sugar balls (patase)
ਘਰ ਤੇ ਚਲਿ ਆਈ ਤਤਕਾਲਾ
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਹਾਂ ਬਨਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ
ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਰੁਖ ਲਖਿ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਏ
ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਅਲਾਏ॥
She hastily came from house
To the place where Guruji was preparing Amrit
Looking at Her Husband’s face, she put them (Patase) in Water
To which, Satguru ji smilingly said.
‘ਭਲੋ ਭਯੋ ਤੂੰ ਚਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਈ
ਨੀਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਪਾਈ ਮਧੁਰਾਈ
ਨਾਤੁਰ ਪੰਥ ਹੋਤ ਬਡ ਕ੍ਰੂਰਾ
ਤੇਜ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਲਹਾ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ॥
It is a blessing you have come here
And put sweeteners in water
Otherwise Panth would have been ruthless
Full of Anger and destructive powers
ਅਪਨਿ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਾਹੀ
ਕਰਤਿ ਜੰਗ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਨ ਬਿਤਾਹੀ
ਮਿਲਿ ਆਪਸ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਕਰਹੀ
ਰਿਸ ਮੋ ਭਰੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਹਰਿਹੀਂ॥
They wouldn’t have cared for own and others
And would have kept fighting, day and night
Wouldn’t have sat with each other, with respect
And would have used weapons at all times
ਅਬਿ ਮਿਸ਼ਟਾਨ ਜੁ ਪਾਯਹੁ ਤੋਹੀ
ਯਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਯਾਰ ਪਰਸਪਰ ਹੋਹੀ
ਨਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਦਵੈ ਤੇ ਸੰਤਾਨਾ
ਪ੍ਰਗਟਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਭਿਹੂੰ ਜਗ ਜਾਨਾ॥
But now you have put sweeteners in Amrit
Therefore, they’ll love and respect each other
A child is always created by Man and Woman
Whole world knows this concept
ਹੋਨਿ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਸੰਤਤਿ ਕਾਲਾ
ਚਲਿ ਆਈ ਭਾ ਭਲੋ ਬਿਸਾਲਾ
ਇਮ ਕਹਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਪਯਾਰੇ
ਦੇਖਨਿ ਕਰੇ ਖਰੇ ਅਗਵਾਰੇ॥
Today, at the time of Birth of Khalsa
You came as Mother of Khalsa
Saying this, Guruji asked Panj Piare
To come forward, so that Mother could see her sons.
