Over the last century the Khalsa Panth has seen a worrying and Growing trend of various Jathai, Babai, Scholars and organisations taking Gurbani and quoting it out of context without due responsibiltiy, in order to justify their Vaishnu beliefs. In particular, on the topic of Maas. For those of us who have been blessed with a traditional Khalsa education, we know that this issue was ‘comprehensively’ dissolved by the Maha-Shaheed, Bhai Manni Singh Ji,

Akal Takhat Rehat Maryada allows Sikhs to eat non-halaal meat.

In Section 6 of Akal Takhat Rehat Maryada, it is written as, Ceremony of Baptism or Initiation Article XXIV Sub-section p: The undermentioned four transgressions (tabooed practices) must be avoided – Dishonouring the hair; – Eating the meat of an animal slaughtered the Muslim way (Ritual Killing) – Cohabiting with a person other than one’s spouse; – Using tobacco.

Prem Sumarg Granth mentions the consumption of animals killed and/or hunted by weapons.

“Whatever is healthy/suitable for the human body, that should be consumed. Meat and fish can also be considered in this category. That which is killed / hunted by a weapon, is considered as eatable. If anybody is unable to hunt then he should eat JHATKA.“
